Data Residency for Atlassian Cloud - You decide where your data is hosted

Ensure that all your data and content, such as Confluence pages and tickets, are exclusively stored in the locations you choose. We'll explain the current available options for data residency in the Atlassian Cloud and what it means for you.
What is Data Residency, and why is it important?
Data residency refers to the physical location where your organization's data is stored. With data residency, administrators can see where their data from Jira Software, Confluence, Jira Work Management, or Jira Service Management is hosted. By being able to choose where your data is stored, you can ensure the highest security standards for your company.
Data residency gives you more control over your data and allows you to ensure that content is stored in your preferred locations. In addition to GDPR compliance, companies often need to meet internal compliance requirements regarding data storage. Especially in regulated industries such as finance or healthcare, data residency is essential to use a cloud environment.
Data residency is available for Standard, Premium, and Enterprise Cloud subscriptions.
Where can I store my data?
You can store your data in Atlassian's locations in the EU, the USA, Australia, Germany, or Singapore (starting from 2024). Atlassian is already planning additional locations for data residency.
Here are the locations you can choose from:
Location |
AWS-Regions |
---|---|
Global |
All AWS Regions |
Australia |
AWS Sydney |
EU |
AWS Frankfurt and Dublin |
USA |
US East and US West |
Germany |
AWS Frankfurt |
Singapore |
AWS Singapore |
The right location depends on your company's requirements or, in some cases, legal regulations based on your industry.
Where can I check where my data is hosted?
To find out where your data is currently located, simply follow these steps:
- Go to http://admin.atlassian.com/ and select your organization.
- Click on "Security" and then choose "Data Residency."
This will take you to a page that lists the products in your organization, the location of each product, and the AWS regions associated with each location. Under "Security > Data Residency," you can also select a new location for your products. You can find more information on this here.
What about Marketplace Apps?
As the Atlassian Marketplace primarily consists of third-party apps, Atlassian cannot currently guarantee data residency for these apps. This means that depending on the apps you use, your data may be stored outside the Atlassian network and, therefore, in different locations.
