Atlassian presents Developer Experience platform Compass

Say hello to Atlassian's Compass - a new platform which aims to boost developer experience

Software development has become more and more complex due to the growing number of tools and software solutions, leading to the formation of knowledge silos. Developers are therefore forced to spend a lot of time gathering information - time that could be better spent on coding and software development. This is where Compass comes into play.

Compass provides developers with a top-notch infrastructure and supports developer teams in four key areas to make their software architecture and work on it easier:

Software Component Catalog

The endless search for information comes to an end. The catalog ensures that you can find all relevant information (such as the technical architecture and metadata of your components) in one place. The catalog is available to all users for free, regardless of your plan.

Health

Here, you can track your metrics like DORA metrics, and milestones. Security and health scorecards help you stay on top of things, detect problems early, and improve your results. You can personalize the scorecards as you like. A team dashboard ensures that everyone can work independently and provides an overview of who is working on which software components.

Templates

Thanks to templates, you can now save time on repetitive tasks. By incorporating best practices into templates, you improve the quality of your code and can directly integrate predefined configurations for CI/CD tools (continuous integration and continuous delivery/continuous deployment), guidelines, and cloud services.

Extensibility

Integrate your internal and third-party tools. By bringing together your CI/CD, cloud infrastructure data, costs, and more in one place, you'll save yourself from frequent context switches.

Compass helps DevOps teams keep track of all components and their relationships, making it easier to see responsibilities and keep everyone up to date on the status of your work. The tool has been used by a number of major companies since the beta version, including Dropbox, KFC, and ExpressVPN.

The benefits of Compass at a glance:

  • Fewer context switches thanks to the software catalog.
  • Track your software deployment using scorecards and metrics.
  • Connect your existing internal and external tools.
  • Speed up and standardize component creation with customizable templates.

When combined with other Atlassian tools like Confluence, Jira Service Management, Jira Software, Opsgenie, and Bitbucket, you can enhance your user experience throughout your software's entire lifecycle.

Compass is now available to everyone. Beta users will continue to have free access to all Compass features until March 31, 2024.
