How to move Insight from Atlassian On-Prem to Cloud

We are moving to the Cloud! We live in a digitalized world, where technology is evolving faster every day. And it is more important than ever to have the flexibility and ability to move faster. When we look at the service requirements of this century, we also see many new and demanding requirements from our customers.

To meet these demands, companies have developed multiple applications, but they are becoming increasingly difficult to maintain over time. To keep up with this pace, cloud environments are now more popular than ever. With cloud platforms, you're always up to date, can serve your customers from anywhere, and can store your data more effortlessly.

As an Atlassian Solution Partner, we want to meet our customers' expectations, also in terms of Atlassian applications. Therefore we want to deliver the best solutions and services! You can find more information about our migration services and packages here: Cloud Migration.

But why the Atlassian Cloud?

atlassianIn the last 2 years, Atlassian has made a huge leap with its cloud app capabilities. There are a lot of new capabilities and out-of-box features that were previously paid for in on-premises. Also, it's only logical to move to the cloud because of the hosting, data protection and scalability options.

As a solution partner, we have also implemented the Insight migration needs of many of our customers. However, since Insight is an application with many configurations, moving data from on-premise to the cloud is not always as easy as it seems. So let's start tackling this problem!

Is it currently possible to move Insight data from on-prem to the JSM cloud??

Insight+2020Unfortunately, Atlassian's Jira Service Management does not provide an out-of-box solution for migrating to the cloud. The complex structure of the cloud APIs and requirements make this difficult. We hope it will be available in the near future, but for now we have to take care of it ourselves with our customers!

Can't I just import CSV or use APIs?

Yes and yes! The problem is that this is a complicated process that requires an investment.

With a CSV import, you have to think a lot about how to configure everything and then prepare all the data in the desired format. And the data exported from Insight is not directly compatible with Cloud in 99.9% of cases. So you would have to invest a lot of time and resources.

Using APIs is not an easy way either. You have to put a lot of development work into it. There are certain procedures you have to follow, a series of steps, creating schemas, creating object types, creating attributes, creating objects, linking references, etc. It's no walk in the park!

But luckily for you, we have already developed a solution for this problem! 🙂

How does it all work?

We use a number of APIs and algorithms to move your on-prem Insight configuration and data to the cloud:

As previously mentioned, it is used for these purposes:

  1. To create schemas

  2. To create object types

  3. To create attributes

  4. To create Objects

  5. To link references

Our script does it all in a series of steps and codes - all you have to do is sit back and relax!

What are the prerequisites?

Nothing special really, we just need to be able to access your cloud and on-premise instances.

If your instance is behind a firewall, we may also ask you for a network configuration.

How can I get it?!
